Privacy Policy

Mountain Weather ("the App") is a free, open-source weather application designed for use in areas with limited connectivity. This policy describes how the App handles your data.

1. Data We Collect

Location Data

The App may request access to your device's GPS location only when you explicitly tap "Use current location".
Location coordinates are used solely to fetch weather data from the Open-Meteo API and are stored locally on your device as part of saved/favorite locations.
Location data is never transmitted to any server other than the Open-Meteo weather API.

Weather Data

The App fetches weather forecasts from the Open-Meteo API, a free and open-source weather service.
Only geographic coordinates (latitude, longitude) are sent to Open-Meteo. No personal information is included in these requests.

Locally Stored Data

Saved locations (favorites, recent cities)
Cached weather data (for offline access)
User preferences (forecast type, sync interval)

All of the above is stored exclusively on your device using Android Room Database and DataStore. None of this data leaves your device except as described above.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect personal information (name, email, phone number).
We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
We do not create user accounts or profiles.
We do not share any data with third parties.
We do not use cookies.

3. Permissions

INTERNET	Required to fetch weather data from Open-Meteo API
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE	Used to detect connectivity for resilient sync and background updates
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION	Optional — used only when you request GPS-based location
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION	Optional — fallback for approximate location

4. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party service:

Open-Meteo API (open-meteo.com) — weather data provider. Their privacy policy is available at open-meteo.com/en/terms.
Google Play Services Location — used for GPS positioning when requested by the user. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Data Retention

All data is stored locally on your device. You can clear all App data at any time through Android Settings → Apps → Mountain Weather → Clear Data, or by uninstalling the App.

6. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any data from children. The App does not collect personal data from any user.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
